One of the Best Decisions I ever Made
Charlene Edwards
What a journey it has been the last few years. In the spring of 2010, I decided that I needed to upgrade my technology skills in order to advance on my current job. Also, I am looking for a new challenging career in education or government. I wanted to find a good graduate program in educational technology. I researched many universities. I picked Michigan State University because the school is rank one of the best schools in education programs according to U.S. News & World Report.
I am happy with my decision to go to MSU. I applied to the certificate program to gain new knowledge of the current technology trends. I wanted to expand on how technology can be used to support learning. After completing the certificate program, I applied to the Master of Arts program. My matriculation at MSU has been challenging and rewarding. The graduate program has provided me with skills such as leadership, research, education, and technology. These graduate courses has taught me a lot about emerging technologies such as online reading, creating online courses, WebQuests, Wikis, blogs, podcasts and Web 2.0 tools.
I reviewed my goal statement that I wrote for the application process, however, I am still working on my personal goals regarding educational technology. I am a little more knowledgeable and able to bring new technology ideas to my workplace. I can apply technology as an effective management tool at the agency. I will focus on implementing online courses at the recreation center to benefit patrons and staff. I have joined a few forums to keep myself up to date with technology information which has helped me to network with other technology professionals.
This summer, I hope to complete my Master of Arts degree in educational technology. Attending Michigan State University's Master of Arts program is one of the best career decisions that I ever made to improve myself both professionally and personally. I will continue to further my education in the field of technology where I will be able to land a job in the field of educational technology and higher education.
